Surf and Foil Impact Protection from Mystic

The everchanging world of watersports is a beautiful thing, innovations due in part to the advancements in foils alongside better recognition on a global scale, mean that more riders are getting out on the water than ever before.

New technologies mean speeds are increasing, jumps are being pushed higher and more technical tricks are being performed, and to ensure safety it is imperative that riders understand the potential risks and how best to protect themselves.

Mystic are a brand well known for their Impact Vests in Wakeboarding and even Kitesurfing, with unique features and innovations which have helped maintain their status within those disciplines for years.

Recently there’s been an increased popularity in the Mystic wetsuit range in both surfing and wingfoiling, wetsuits such as the Voltt Series chosen for their elevated warmth and One series for the sublime flexibility they offer.

Mystic have been working tirelessly with their designers and pro-riders to produce a new line of impact protection more specific to surfing and foiling, offering the necessary safety where it is needed, without compromising on factors like mobility and comfort.

Impact Caps

Mystic already offers two well-known helmet ranges; the Vandal and the Vandal Pro, but the release of the Mystic Impact Cap offers something completely different.

Made from neoprene and 10mm of EVA foam this is a low-profile softshell helmet. The foam layer is used not only for its water resistance and high shock absorbency but also for its ability to mould to the shape of the wearers head.

Designed specifically for more ‘in water’ sports thanks to an internal channelling system built into the foam, that runs front to back to help effectively drain water after a big crash and minuses water pooling inside the cap. A small peak further helps stop water from flowing into the eyes of the user.

The padding also descends down through the strap to protect the cheeks and temples. A unique perforated design over the ears provides reliable protection from water and wind whilst allowing for clear hearing throughout the session.

Being available in three different sizes combined with the Adjustable Chin Strap and Velcro Fit System at the back allows for a precise fit every time. Providing comfort and protection for every head size and shape.

Lastly, the lightweight and flexible construction ensures comfort for all day sessions. With around 51% of all surf injuries being head related, investing in a Mystic Impact Cap really is a no-brainer!

Surf Impact Range

As surf spots continue to get more popular the risk of collision only rises, alongside the ever-increasing speeds and heights achieved by foil enthusiasts mean slams are only getting harder and heavier. This of course isn’t meant to dissuade riders from the water to help frame safety as a key aspect of watersports.

By incorporating technologies developed for their Wake and Kite ranges, Mystic have developed a new collection of Surf and Foil specific products.

Key Features

Clash Foam

Mystic’s proprietary foam technology utilised throughout all vests for both wake and kite. With its unique cell construction maintaining a low-profile design that allows for greater mobility, quick drying times and most importantly provides great impact protection by better absorbing and dispersing the forces of an impact.

MX2 Neoprene

Mystic’s premium closed-cell neoprene built with durability and rebound in mind, delivering impressive stretch and flexibility for an enhanced range of motion.

Glued Blind Stitched

A method of joining sections of neoprene whereby the individual panels are glued together first and then only stitched halfway throughout instead of fully perforating the material to ensure the waterproofing of the seams.

CE Approved

Mystic are one of the few companies that ensures their entire impact protection range is independently tested in Europe, meeting the compliance ratings required for health, safety and performance.

Surf Impact Shorty

A high-performance, and versatile choice for all riders seeking high-quality protection.

The unisex fit is designed to be worn either on its own in warmer climates like a traditional shorty (comparable to the Mystic Star) or if the conditions demand can be placed underneath a traditional fullsuit such as the Majestic for unparalleled warmth.

Strategically placed panels of 10mm Clash Foam in high-impact zones ensures that riders remain protected whilst out on the water. Reduced padding around the waist means whether the user prefers the simple minimalism of the Wing Foil harness or the more premium Majestic X, both will remain snug and secure throughout the session.

Fully constructed from MX2 neoprene panels for their elasticity and comfort, combined with GBS stitching to minimise flush and junction taping for increased durability.

Lastly, a YKK double front zip makes for easy entry and exit from Mystic’s Surf Impact Shorty, although once you’ve got it on you may never wish to take it off again!

Surf Impact Short John

Developed for big wave surfers requiring maximum protection but recommended for anyone concerned about impacts or collisions.

Mystic have placed ergonomically shaped panels of foam in strategic areas of the suit, to ensure minimal repercussions to the rider. The Clash Foam varies in thickness from 10 to 25mm to help maintain an optimal range of movement for the wearer.

Padding in the chest is also fully removeable allowing for a customisable fit.

Constructed entirely from MX2 neoprene further showcases how paramount flexibility and comfort are in the Mystic Short John’s design. Zipfree entry finishes the fit and allows the rider to comfortably secure a wetsuit on top adding an extra layer of warmth and protection from the elements.

Impact Under Vest and Short

Designed to help anyone ride with confidence no matter how their ability or how challenging the conditions might be. The zipfree design ensures a flush fit underneath any preferred Mystic wetsuit such as the new Motion fullsuit, or perhaps a Star shorty.

MX2 Neoprene enhanced with flatlock stitching ensures maximum mobility for even the most dynamic surfers. 10mm Clash Foam padding provides outstanding shock absorbency with low water retention, the unique panel placement covers high impact zones whilst the unpadded waist allows for a harness to fit securely.

Sizing

Much like traditional impact vests or wetsuits the Surf Impact range is designed to fit tight to the body, so as to not move independently and reduce the protection offered.

When fitting these products there shouldn't be any pockets of air or excessive fold in the material key places to look are the small of the back and under the arms.
